The Journey of A Thousand Miles
The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step! Whether old or new, everything in this world has a beginning. If it is to come into being in this world, it has to have a start. No matter how far one has to travel, he’ll never reach his destination without taking that first step, and the manner in which that first step is taken often sets the tone for every step that follows—and may well determine whether or not the destination is reached at all. That is why some journeys have to be renewed or started over. Praise God for second (and third, and fourth…) chances! Thank God for new beginnings!
I have begun a new work as Minister of Education and Evangelism here at Highland Heights, and with it comes the beginning of this new Bible Blog on our newly renovated website. What a blessing from God it is to have this means of communicating with people all over the world. This blog is a tool in the King’s hand to reach out and affect open hearts and minds wherever they may be. As the writer of this blog, I pray that I will be faithful to Jesus in everything I say and do, and I hope to be able to have an impact for good upon every one of you who read these words.
This is a second blog for me, though it is not second to my other one. My personal blog is called “A More Excellent Way,” and can be read at joshualpappas.blogspot.com. With it I will be blogging about my personal spiritual journey and posting articles about a variety of spiritual matters. With this “Bible Blog,” here on the church website, I intend to blog about the good things happening in the church, and to write about questions that people have asked me, and I hope to use it as a means of building up the members of the congregation (and everyone else). I hope you’ll decide to keep up with both of them, as there will be good updates to each one at least a few times each week. Feel free to make any good-spirited comments that come to mind, and do not hesitate to post your questions in response to the things you read here. Working with Highland Heights Church of Christ is a new beginning for me. I’ve taken the first step in faith with a positive outlook, and look forward to a marvelous journey. My work on this blog is a new journey as well, and I hope that many of you will walk along with me. My hope is that we can all walk together with the Savior and together reach the destination of eternal life. Solomon wrote, “[God] has put eternity into man’s heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11b ESV). Indeed he has, and I long for it. “Come Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20). Until he does may every man, woman and child seek peace with God through him so as to walk with him in this life and reach that eternal glory that God has made us to yearn for in the deepest recesses of our hearts. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and so it is also with the journey to heaven. Next, I’ll write about the first steps of that great journey.
